Just installed a rebuilt rack 3 months back, my sons first Porsche, great car, I have owned 5 myself and I do all the repairs thus teaching my son.
Just yesterday we changed the inner and outer front wheel bearings and noticed the tie rod boots are bulging with air or fluid, well it ended up being fluid and its causing back pressure to the main center rack area and its leaking again. I believe we bled it properly from the Porsche set of service manuals, (the big shop set). If the reservoir is full and its bled, does this mean the rebuilt rack seals just blew out. Cant see how this would happen unless it was a bad rack. If we did not work on the wheel bearings I wold have not noticed this since its his daily driver. Any 944 mechanics know how this occur before I call the seller/supplier and ask for another unit to be sent out, just so we can spend another 4-6 hours for removal and replacement. changing the boots which one now has a hole in probably from road debris and its leaking. Would be really nice to have a complete "manual rack" since this PS problem seems to be a general problem with many 944's. My previous 1983, 84, 85, 86 and 1990 S2 Cabrio never had these PS problems. Just has to be overpressure or incorrect bleeding process which I did according the service books? ![]() |
