Repairing Cabriolet Mechanism
Hi, my name is Sean I am in the UK, with my 1992 944 Cabriolet.
The hood or soft top as I know hood means bonnet in America has just started to give me trouble. It will operate manually if I undo the locking bolts, but will only lift about one third of its travel and then there is a clicking noise like a cog slipping when using the motor. Questions 1. How do I access the motors and cables behind the seets under the ledge/shelf? I can't see any obvious way in, so that I can check out the mechanism. 2. Has anyone else had this particular problem and what was the cause? Looking forward to hearing from a magician Cheers Sean |

If it is possible to move the roof manually, something has failed in the transmission or cables.
Pulling the rear side panels to access the transmissions. Remove the rear shelf to access the motors and cable drives. I would just make it fully manual by loosening the central bolt on both transmissions. Continuing to use the motors in its current state make break the support bows which are quite expensive if you can find them. (I believe there is a current complete top assembly on rennlist as a part out if you would like to search) People that use their top frequently commonly disconnect the transmission and make the top manual. Northernerns typically leave it connected. The bolt that is loosened to make the top manual is 'micro encapsulated' and should be replaced if you loosen it. Check all pivots and the top PDF floats online on installation and adjustment. Last edited by thomasryan; 05-24-2017 at 01:17 PM.. |

Hi Thomas, thanks for your response.
I was/am struggling to find out how to remove the parcel shelf, does it become obvious once the side panels are off? Looks like I have my job for the weekend! Cheers Sean |
