Removing (disabling) airco
 
Hi,

I'm thinking about removing the ac compressor. I have never used it since i bought the car over a year ago and the system is completly empty. If i wish to refill it, the oil should be changed as well as the condensor, because the old system has become illegal. Pretty expensive, but it might be worth it.
Until then, i'm looking how to just remove the compressor and still be able to drive the alternator (pretty important ;)). The drivebelt seems to be tightend with the compressor pulley. If i'd remove the complete compressor i could just slip a shorter belt on the engine and alternator, but i won't be able to tighten it up.

Now i saw a 'AC remove package' at paragon. Shorter belt, shroud and a delete bracket is in the standard package. What would this do for me and what are the experiences?

By the way: i'm afraid the clutch isn't 100% as well on the compressor and i think that sometimes the compressor is running while there is no fluid and little oil in. This eats HP and destroys the compressor, so i really need to get it out of the way quick...

The condensor doesn't need to be replaced for the new R134 system. The only part that may not be compatible is the dryer. Converting to the new A/C is easy, and it requires little mecanical knowledge. The issue is that the new R134 doesn't work as well. Since the A/C in our old cars never worked that well to begin with you might not be happy with the results. Compressor should have a shut off switch that will not let it run if the system is empty. Compressors can be expensive if it is bad. Also A/C systems do not like to sit empty. The oil and freon need to be circulated. What year and model is yours? Considering where you live you may never need A/C go ahead and pull it. It might be easier to pull the compressor and gut it. Use the empty shell for the alternator brackets. The pully and the A/C clutch should come off.

It's an 1988 Turbo, and i live in the Netherlands where it's like a week or 2-4 that an airco comes in very handy. The rest of the year it just rains ;)

I meant dryer, i'm not too good in technical english :)

So, how about the package from paragon. What does it do and if i'm not mistaking you tell me to just keep using the pulley from the compressor?
