Need help finding a screw.

I removed my AC fan blower housing (Porsche 968). The 6 hex screws that hold the base of the housing to the body were completely rusted. No one has these screws, they don't even show up in PET and they have a special sealing rubber washer. Went to lowes, Home Depot, Fastenal, Ace hardware and autozone and googled the heck out of them. I can't believe that no body has them. I called pelican parts and no such screw exists.
It appears to be an M5.5, 25 mm length with 1.75 pitch.

I found one place on the internet (accugroup) that carries something similar but they want 80 dollars for a bag of 200.

Any leads on this or maybe an alternative?

Here is the one from accugroup but it's self drilling and doesn't come to a point on the end so still not exact.

944online?

You probably need to search on English or German websites since that screw head looks like an off shore type.

I don't know if I would have the dedication you have to make sure everything looks original.
However, you could find something close that works and use that.

BTW, you should buy the screws in stainless steel since you mentioned they rusted.

Thanks DJ will check there.

Paul I did look on German sites but came up with nothing. I really don't care about it being original but just finding any screw with that size is not working either. I will try some screws I have in spare parts box to see If I can find anything that works.

Do you guys think a similar screw with 1.81 thread pitch would work instead of 1.75?
I found a similar Mercedes screw.

Boeing 717:

I have a vast inventory of 944/968 parts and a huge cache of screws, bolts and washers from those Porsche cars.

Let me take a look, if I have them you can have them for shipping costs. SmileWavy

if it's 5.5mm across the threads (major diameter) that's essentially the same as a #12 sheet metal screw. 1.75 pitch is about 14 TPI and a #12 is 11...might be close enough to work.

Thanks Tib.

Thanks, good info Rocket.

I know the screw you are talking about. it is a weird screw with an 8mm head and it is probably something only Porsche used for this one spot.

On the other hand I have never had to replace a bolt or screw on any of my 944's because of rust, the metal quality and coating is just too good. Occasionally I have to clean them up for surface rust. On my Ford I have to replace things all of the time. And the replacements last even less time than the originals. So maybe those screws can be cleaned up with something like a brass wire brush if it is just surface rust?

If you buy a replacement at your FLAPS it will be rusting in a year.

Good luck!

Look at the rear wing attachment parts.

Rubber washer is 803955637

A 5x22 hex is
Screw 5 x 22 is n033184a or N0331841 a counter sink model.

Or try....

Thanks Dj, the heads of the screws were so rusted that they fused to the washers and almost stripped taking them out. 2 or 3 were still in ok condition.

Thanks, I will look at it Thomas.

The shorter lower plastic cladding picture on the Jim Ellis dealer page actually says 'used for mounting the air duct....' but those are slightly shorter.

Porsche uses the term 'hex-head screw' if you wand to image search.. Luke at Sunset might know off the top of his head.

I bought a bag of #12 x 1 sheet metal screws. Per rockets advice. I can find a thin sheet of rubber and cut my own rubber washers.

Thanks for the help.

Jerry typically Lowes/HD etc will sell rubber (neoprene) washers too in their hardware pull-out-tray section.
