VERY important info for car owners!!!!!

I would like to relate to all of you something interesting and unpleasant. This is related to porsche owners as well as everybody else.

I feel stupid now, but hind sight is always 20/20.

Last night, I was driving my new (to me) volvo station wagon. I was happy for the upgrade to a turbocharged engine, and I got the car at a very good price. This is a car man's morphine, and I was happy.

I was on the way to my in-laws, and it being a first trip for a new car, my wife and I took two separate vehicles and traveled in convoy in case of trouble.

Well, trouble there was. At about 10:00 PM my engine temp gauge went from middle of the road to the stop on the toast side. I stopped immediately, and checked the problem out. The radiator was leaking quite a bit of fluid. I decide to leave the car there for the evening, and come back in the morning to fix it or tow it. At about the time that I was leaving, a couple of visitors showed up.

This is where the story starts to get interesting. The two good samaritans who stopped were officers from the local sheriff's office. They asked me for ID and asked if they could help. I told them the situation, and that I was going to return to get the car the next day.

They looked at each other and asked if they could call me a tow truck. I told them that I would be just fine. They then mentioned that they wouldn't leave such a nice car there overnight. I said it wasn't the best car in the world, and just because it says Volvo on it doesn't mean much on the price end of things. They then mentioned with a helpful smile that people had a tendancy to have their windows broken out in this area if they leave their cars unattended.

Since it was not a bad neighborhood at all, I decided that I would risk it and told them so. Their cruiser was parked behind my wife and I with all of their lights going, and my wife and I decided to wait until they had left to move on. It was impossible to see oncoming traffic with them there.

We sat there for almost 10 minutes waiting for them to leave. They did not. They just sat there and stared at us. Not talking to each other. Not doing paperwork. Not doing anything but staring at us. Eventually we risked it and left.

They continued to sit there until we were out of sight.

When I returned in the morning, I had two of my windows broken out.

How many of you would like to bet me the cost of two windows that those police officers did it? Perhaps because they had kickbacks from the tow service they REALLY wanted to call for me.

What do you guys think I should do? Right now I think I am screwed.

I think that hearing that this story is very important info for everybody?

Angry

Sorry to hear that carolinus,
I suppose you could call the police department and make a statement as to your suspicions. May not do any good but you never know. On the other hand if these guys are shady people and all this happened not too far from where you live maybe best not to mess with them. Sad that we live in a world like this.

you have no proof. they did warn you abou the area being bad, and urged you to tow it so a safe location, which you refused.

Blackfoot has a good point, they may have had nothing but good intentions.

I might still have some doubt, but...

Well, I just went back there to pick up some stuff at the local O' Reilly's there, and mentioned it to the counter guy. He looked like the owner. Without being told, he asked if the local sheriff's department had recommended that I move my car. I said "Yes." He looked at me and said, "Yup. That's what happens to everyone around here who doesn't take them up on that offer to call a tow truck." I then heard him say "*******s" under his breath. I went out to my car and noticed another lady driving by with her windows broken out.

Riiiiiight...

Wait a week or two, get someone besides you to "act" like theres a similar problem as to what happend to you. Wait for the locals to come (provided they do), Refuse the help. Have them leave just as you did. Have someone else who is hiding steakout the car and wait to see what happens.

Mabey you'll catch them and be the local hero! Just don't get shot.

Good luck

Wow. You should try calling a newstation that does undercover reports, maybe they will be willing to help you and stop what they are doing.

Both of those are good ideas....

Both of those are very good ideas. I have a friend who is a DIE HARD photographer, and has all of the night vision equipment. He is also the most blatantly gay appearing guy on the planet despite being straight. If anybody is going to catch it from a bunch of small town yokel sherriff's officers, it will be him. Then, we set back in the van with the my other friend from the local TV station. Gee.

You people are a bad influence. If something comes of it, I will do my best go get it web cast (they are just setting that up, there), and will provide you guys with a link.

This fun occurred...

In the wonderful state of Missouri. I talked to my friend at the station, and he says this particular station doesn't do investigative reporting. They think it is too risky. He did give me several leads to call, though, and I will let you guys know how it goes.

Not to be too specific, but this incident happened along Highway 50. So...If you find yourself on Highway 50 in Misery, don't trust the cops.
