setting the mixture on an early Euro
I posted this at Rennlist as well, but I just know you guys will have opinions as well!
Okay, I've avoided this question since my rebuild last year, but I'm ready to break the set screw loose (it's locked solidly in place) and set the mixture correctly. This winter I've driven the car maybe a total of 200 miles, and with each start the smell of fuel seems stronger and stronger, and now even after warming up (thuroughly) I still smell a little fuel. Which way should I rotate the set screw (allen head) to lean the fuel vs. make the mixture more rich? I'm know that I could just look this, but then I wouldn't get input on why this situation is occuring in the first place: aka unsolicited and priceless information!

Mixture screw on the AF meter is turned in (clockwise) to richen the mixture, out (counter clockwise) to lean, it is simply an air by pass around the flap, therefore more unmetered air = leaner, less unmetered air = richer.

First find out why it smells of fuel. There is no reason to adjust anything unless the adjustment is out-of spec, and as you have not verified that, there may be another problem.
