Airbag light (Jetta)
Not a 944 but I wanted to tap into the infinate knowledge of the site: the airbag light in my jetta came on while driving at highway speeds, no rapid braking or swirving, just straight driving. I know they call them "idiot lights" for a reason, so should I stop being an 'idiot' and take it to the dealer? The bad thing is I will be selling it within a few weeks so I didn't want any stuff like this to come up, but I don't want to sell a car that isn't safe either.

guess what, something came up. Sell it and get a 944. good luck man.
Sounds like the sensor is telling you that the iar bag has been deployed. Do yoiu park in malls alot? someone may have given you a good tap while parking. Follow these rules when shopping, ther's are three zones.. 1.) The Blue Hair Zone- ANY of the first 7 spaces in the front rows of the parkin lots closest to the stores. THis is a VERY dangerous area. Also shopping carts are know to frequent this area and feed on door panels and fenders as their daily nutrition. 2.) Minivan/S.U.V. containment area- this area consists of any close to the store or parking space that you can park your car Cockeyed. these Jerk-offs couldn't drive their way out of a wet paperbag. This is also know as the Cell-phone area.. usually this is any of the first 15-17 rows anywhere in front of a door to get into the mall/grocerystore. CAUTION!! these Fart faces are also know to Double Park in Fire zones and also leave their vehicles running parked "Cockeyed" in Handi capped spaces. 3.)Employee parking- this is your safe house. Park next to the Grand Nationals and Mustangs. Not where the girls park, they can't drive anything very well. You can tell where the hairdressers park vs. the guys at Champs Sporting goods. The girls cars are always Filthy frigging dirty and very dented. even if it's clean, check one of the front wheels for brake dust if it's caked on her boy friend washed her car and left a warning to all of us men out there to stay clear my girlfriend is like Chewbacca behind the wheel!!.. I hope this helps you with your airbag light problem. Frank B

The only experience I had with an airbag light was a 95 Camry. The air bag computer went bad and the light came on. The air bag was disabled and would not activate without a working computer. Dealership wanted $500 and the computer has not been replaced yet (its been 1 year).

nah you were nudged. Maybe there is a CPU malfuntion, but Toyota has a strong history for making reliable vehicles. I'd put moolah on a doofus (probablly didn't even realise that he/SHE hit you) or OLD person playing tag with your car.
I used to have a nice Honda accord. The front end was torn off 2 times right in front of my house by OLD CHURCHIES making illegal U-TURNS on my street. one of them actually had the gaul to balance the bumper on the front of the car so that when I got in, started and went to move it just fell the frig off. Didn't leave a note nuttin.. So, now I go old school and break out the lawn chairs on Sundays when apllicable. good luck.. Frank B

No I don't think anyone hit me, I was cruising at highway speeds, no rapid breaking nothing. I about crashed it last night when someone in an old white riviera pulled out in front of me and stopped in the middle of the road, here's the best part, he was watching the t.v. on top of the dash. Now even better I have bald spots on my front tires, which were crap before but now even worse.

On the Toyota I am sure it is the CPU. Dads an elecrial enginer he pulled it and it doesn't check out. Is it safe to drive with the air bag ligt on? I can only speak for the Toyota but the light means the airbag will not acivate. However it is a little scarry driving down the road when it first come on. I was wondering if the air bag was going to go off at 65 mph.

Thanks Frank and Roger, I should just assume that it's going to cost me a lot of money and I should just unplug it. Too many liability and ethical problems with that looks like I'll just take a loss. Anyone want to buy an otherwise nice 96' Jetta GL 5spd. Will need exhaust within 1-3 yrs, small hole on top of cat., tires eventually. I'm getting a 2001 Taurus w/ 60000 miles for $3500 from my dad's company, would love another 944 but I'm going to college next year 350 miles away so I need something I know won't give me fits, I hated to see a dirty P-car or any for that matter so I wouldn't be able to treat it like it deserves.

My 1990 Saab 900 Turbo's airbag light i guess came on when they guy had it before me so he got it fixed and then it came on again after i had it for a while, i just unplugged the lightbulb in the back of the gauge cluster that powers it to light up! then you dont worry about it! By the way, anyone want a Saab 900 Turbo, trying to sell it, has a ton of stuff replaced on it, just needs a little body work and paint and will be good, runs great, decently fast, $1400.
