Transaxle rebuild - no one local wants to do this?

My new-to-me 1987 944 NA needs a transaxle rebuild. The 1st gear synchro is obviously worn out, and the others are well on their way to being worn out. I'm an enthusiastic home mechanic, but rebuilding a transaxle is beyond the tools I own, as well as my mechanical abilities.

I'm located near Seattle WA, and while there are a number of reputable Porsche shops in the area, not one has responded to my voicemail or email inquiries about whether they are willing to take on the job of rebuilding my transaxle. I take that as a "no," as in, they don't want to touch this job.

The only other options I have found are a shop in Bend, OR that specializes in rebuilding Porsche/VW transaxles, and Catellus Engineering in MA that specializes in 944 transaxles. I do not doubt the quality of work from either, but dropping the transaxle myself, packing it up for shipping, paying for the shipping, paying for the rebuild work, then re-installing it on the car all seem like a huge expense and PITA.

Does anyone else have other suggestions, or transaxle rebuilding experiences to share? Thanks.
