when the car is cold, the idle jumps from 1000rpm to basically shutting off, then it eventually dies out, it seems to get better when the car warms up, any possible solutions??

what year car? pre 85.5? Aux Air Valve. TPS. AFM. Vacuum leaks. Bad gas. COIL WIRE@! TDC sensor moved. voltage fluctuations. genital discomfort. oh wait, that's me. throttle stop screw backed out and the throttle body butterfly has worn the throat out. Cloggy injectors. fluctuating fuel pressure. air bypass thiny out of whack. radio on the wrong station.

maybe, but not likely. I'd try the aux. air valve.

Oooo! Same as mine! You know, you can take your aux air valve (herefortoafterwhen to be called AAV) off and stick it in the freezer for 8hrs. Take it out (grab me a Iceypop while yer in there) and you should see a semi largish opening in it, and it should get smaller the warmer it gets. While you're there, i'd check those hoses for leaks, they get bent at some mean angles in thier lifetime.
