Zero oil pressure and pressure light is on?
So, this car is literally a sequential problem. Happily the last was my fault.
The engine's oil light in the instruments is on, and the oil gauge reads zero. So I am thinking about checking the oil sensor and wondering if anyone's got some guidance on that. Its full of fresh Mobil 1, new oil filter, and there is zero lifter noise. I was extremely careful to get the oil pump gear properly oriented, and also the pulley is properly torqued on. As tempting as it is to go run around and do errands figuring a guage problem, I can't do it. When the key is turned on, the guage moves a half needle width. No movement once the engine is started and revving does not do anything. Thanks in advance Doug

go to the sender and switch the wires around.

I read a couple places that if the wires were accidentally switched, the oil guage would peg at max? I am definitely getting oil pressure, and the wires were not touched. I suspect the sender is toast and its such a pain to get in there, I'm going to arrive with a new one and just replace it. Oil pressure is pretty critical and on a 34yo vehicle I think its wise money.

Just removing the sensor is not to much of a pain, its tight in there but it is do able without removing any thing else...Now hopefully the new sender fix the problem and you do not have to remove the OPRV i took mines off to replace the oil cooler gasket i had to remove the exhaust headers and i alread had the power steering pump disconnected and i was able to drop it from the bottom.

Since your earlier posts mentioned locking the crankshaft and replacing the front oil pump seal, I am going to suggest that the front crankshaft bolt has loosened and is no longer driving the oil pump gear.
The torque is 155 lb.ft.

I was very meticulous about the pulley, oil gear and correct torque on the pulley bolt. I will double check the torque and orientation.
So what is the scoop with the Oil Pressure Relief Valve? Was it merely leaking, or did you put in a new spring or part? Thanks. Doug

Someone had a post a couple of weeks ago about no oil pressure after doing some front engine work turns out there a washer he put on the wrong way in the crankshaft.
I don’t know if it was leaking I just wanted to replace the oil cooler gasket because it only $30 and I don’t knows the history’s of the car and I was arlready doing belts and other work around it. If you do take the OPRV make sure you get the correct alignment tool. |
