Your input on SFR Supercharger
First off before I get started, I'm not looking for the usual responce of,"sell your NA and get a turbo". I'm looking for thoughtful insight and opinions regarding Speed Force Racing's superchargers.
Their stage 1 supercharger uses a 5psi pully, and isn't intercooled. Their stage 2 uses a 8-9psi pully, and is intercooled. I wasn't thinking of going any higher than a 5psi pully when I got thinking about adding a supercharger, but then stumbled upon SFR's intercooled 8-9psi system. Would an intercooled 8-9psi system be as safe on an engine, as a non-intercooled 5psi system. To me 8-9psi seems a little much, even with an intercooler. 5psi seems about right, and even with that, for safety, I would still install an intercooler. But I want your input into the subject as I want things to be as safe as possible yet still yield the max amount of power. Thanks guys. -Tony |

Well everything I have ever owned that has come from sfr has been a good quality part and they seem to know what they are doing. As far as the super charger and reliability I am not sure I have never had one and I don't know anyone that does. They seem to be really honest there....give them a call and the will tell you the truth about the product as far as pro's and con's. I bet there will be some great and insightful reply's here as well.

Well the way I see it is that the higher the boost, the more likely that engine damage could result.
However 8-9 PSI is still quite low compared to the values you see on some turbocharged installations. I think the intercooler is worth having anyway, as it will increase engine efficiency and improve both power output and fuel economy. I'm sure if you talk to SFR they would supply a 5 PSI system with intercooler if thats want you want. You won't get the familiar "sell it, but a turbo" argument from me, I think a superchargers a great idea, my S2 will be getting one as soon as I've got the cash! (944 S2, stage 2 kit, = 290 bhp at the wheels. Need I say more? And you've got the low down grunt of a supercharger, much more driveable than a turbo) Mark |

well the reason for the 8 or 9 psi is because of the higher compression. It's like a lower compression engine with more boost.

The SFR setup is 3999$ for the 5spi and 4999$ for the 8-9psi. Quite a bit, considering a 951 could be had for 4k + the 3K-4K from the sale of your NA......but it would make a damn fun project! And since I haven't seen it properly done on these boards, a first and a challenge.
