RIP Clark of Clark's Garage

Saw this on another message board and figured I'd post it up here.

Clark Fletcher, the owner Clark's Garage website has died.

Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Oh, tragedy. Clark Fletcher did so much for the 944 community and had such a profound impact. Very sad.

Damn, I wouldn't have been able to do many of the repairs on my 944 if it wasn't for Clarks Garage
RIP Clark and my prayers for your family

Sorry to hear.

Better archive the site before it goes dark.

His site inspired many of us to help preserve one of the Marque's most important model; I can honestly admit that I've become a better wrench over the years by reviewing the many tutorials on Clark's Garage. I didn't know the man but am grateful to his contribution. May his legacy endure through our continued pursuit of maintaining our beloved machines.

Ah man, that's terribly sad. So sorry for his family and friends to be going through this - especially that they're going through it without him. Sounds like a diving accident, but there must be more to the story as they were with a professional. I'm a diver and have friends and family who are dive masters and there are strict rules for the professional regarding constant visual contact with the clients, etc. Man - what a tragedy. God bless, and godspeed to him and those close to him.

Doug

I read about it on another board. What a shame. Prayers for the family. We should send condolences to show the family how much we appreciated a man whom most never met.
His obit will appear here.

I apologize - and I wasn’t going to write anything- but this news makes me astonished, even a little angry. It sounds like something that really should not have happened to Clark Fletcher. I’ll really have to stop short there.

Clark’s Garage was one big reason that I went for a 944 way back. Pelican Parts was another. That’s just how big a deal Clark Fletcher was.

Clark's almost 20 year-old website got the ball rolling for thousands of people's mechanical abilities all over the world. Undoubtedly thousands of 944s are still on the road because owners were equipped with Clark's clear and concise instructions and commentary. I personally would have been completely lost trying to straighten out my then-newly-acquired 944 as a 17 y/o with little mechanical experience. Instead, Clark's Garage gave me the information and confidence to do a clutch as my first real project.

RIP Clark.

I posted this on RL as well. Sad situation. Great guy.

I read through this thread this evening and paused to think about the unselfish contribution that Clark had to the global 944 community. Truly an incredible service provided to enthusiasts from all walks of life. A rare legacy of positive effects of sharing; even if its all centered around our daily transportation and recreation.

Literally, minutes later, my neighbor walks into my home with a very sullen expression. I joked with him a bit. "who died?" His wife cut me off with a quick, "actually, one of his colleagues at work died this week...diving accident". I was floored.

What was his name? He answered, "Clark". "His name was Clark Fletcher".

My fellow Rennlisters, I spent most of this evening hearing about Clark and his unassuming contributions to his work colleagues and his family. Apparently, his contributions go far beyond what he has given to our community. He was truly a special person. I regret that I was so close to actually meeting him and did not.

R.I.P.

Ironically, I may be one of the last of you guys to email him. After listening to how highly regarded his site it, I sent a request to join (it's currently manually done by him due to bots, etc) a couple weeks ago. When I did not get a reply after a week, I sent another unanswered. Now I know why. RIP.

A helluva loss to the 944 community. Without his Garage Shop Manual and the advice from his (and these) forums, I woulda never been able to do anything. It got me started and took me through all the repairs I had to do - way better than the Porsche shop manual.

He appointed an admin a few years ago, Dean924s. I see the forums have been down for the last couple days; hopefully they'll soon go back up. Such a lot of wisdom there, it'd be a shame to see it lost.

The last time there was a scare, I made pdf copies of his Garage Shop Manual - the entire thing. If the website does ever go down, I'd be glad to host the manual.
