Purchasing(I think) 1989 S2 help please!

I went to look at 1989 944 S2 yesterday with 67,000km's on it. It is originally from Japan but was imported to Kamloops BC in '06. All belts/water pump have been replaced, and there are detailed service records from that point on.
BUT when I started it, the car was litterally shaking! The idle was very rough. It wasn't noisy, and the idle was steady at 1000 rpm and not hunting. The issue was only while idling, the car drives smooth with no issues. After driving it for 15 minutes, the idle was better, but still not perfect.
Any ideas as to what the cause might be? Any tips?

No such thing as an '87 S2. You are probably looking at an '87 S (2.7L, 16 valve).

Not nearly as nice as an S2, as the running gear is the same as the NA cars.

Vacuum lines could be one culprit. It's most likely an 87 944S, does it have the 16 Valve engine? Pictures? The S2 came in 1989.

Balance shafts. Either not connected at all or not set correctly.

Yep, your right, it is a '89... I have worked him down to $14,000 Canadian, 67,000 kms, Gold exterior, right front fender was damaged and the paint is slightly off but the rest of the exterior is very nice, interior is perfect, some minor sweating from engine, Idles rough but drives very nice, belts and water pump were replaced... pictures to come.

Balance shafts vibrate around 3000 RPM.
Bad motor mounts shake at idle and smooth out above that.

Motor Mounts were done 4 years/7000 kms ago. Could it be anything terminal? if a Valve was bent, would it vibrate like that? Also, if you put pressure on the gear lever while driving, there is a little whine.

The mounts could have been done using the very inexpensive, low quality aftermarket parts which are known to fail in 1-2 years vs the much more expensive 15+ year Genuine Porsche mounts.

Bad valve likely wouldn't cause vibration but would cause poor running.

$14000 CAD is still high...There has to be a way to get it under C$10k

Low quality/cost motor mounts = $40-50.
Porsche branded original motor mounts = about $200 each.

Exactly what Spencer (AKA v2rocket_aka944) is referring to.

Last set I bought from Paramount Automotive was $187 each.

I test drove an '85 with the balance shafts out of time. It idled fairly smooth but as it revved up the thing buzzed so bad I knew something was wrong. After about 3 miles the vibration coming up the steering column was so bad I couldn't drive it any further! My hands tingled for quite a while after.

Is that a right hand drive car?

Actually, having watched Canadian 944 prices for several years now, that price isn't that far out of line. Maybe a bit high but not much if the condition matches the mileage.
