Post funny stuff, well...kinda

Have I got a great story for you guys. I go to school with this kid that has an n/a Eagle Talon and he always talks about how fast it is. Everytime he starts saying it's so fast I always tell him that they really aren't that fast. Well...truth be known I proved my point. I got a roll on with him while I was driving the minivan, yes, THE MINIVAN. The sad part is I pulled about a car length on him and all of a sudden the red and blue lights started flashing. The cop did NOT write me a ticket, he laughed and said that I did justice. He did however, call my parents and they aren't exactly happy.

hahaha I love it...
I used to have a n/a Talon - the 8v 1.8 liter model... Yeah, slower than heck. I did also have a minivan that was faster - 2.4L Toyota Previa The van would do a donut hehe (don't ask)

Good job on wasting it tho

haha imagine how bad you would have embarrassed him if you were driving the Porsche!

granted a 944 na isn't the fastest thing in the world... but i think it would have won this race!

I raced him with the 944. I pulled roughly 4 cars on him out of the hole (I'm not sure, he was too far back to tell) and I kept walking on him hard. He also claims that his car does 140 mph easy, lol, I topped out higher then him too!

I like back highways for high speeds. Yeah, hot rodding in the minivan, lol. It's almost as funny as hot rodding in a talon!

These kids and their econobox hot rods crack me up!!!!! I see them come into shop with all sorts of "performance" bolt ons, even if they don't really fit their car. And the funny thing is a bone stock car of the same make is typically faster, more economical,QUIETER and way more reliable. But everyone knows a 4" cold air intake is worth at least 20hp on a honda. Type R sticker 15hp. Carbon fiber shift knob 10hp. Neon lights at least 5hp. Oh and don't forget the biggest, noisiest, most expensive polished exhaust tip, thats gotta be good for an extra 20

Has anybody seen the latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports?

They Auto-X a new Honda minivan against a vintage XKE and a 356. The Minivan wins.

Um, don't street race. And if you do, please don't post more of that stuff here. Consider this your warning.

Thank you.

I have a question, what's so bad about street racing? Everybody frowns upon it like it's the worst thing in the world, but seriously, if it isn't done carelessly what's wrong with it?

i understand that you don't like street racing, zoltan, but i don't see any reason to ban it from the board. I've seen posts about street racing here for years. It's Porsche-related, right? So what's the problem?

What really gets me is when people try to justify street racing by saying that all of the precautions were taken, and all the safety factors were in place. That it was done on deserted streets, and that all those involved were aware of the dangers.
To that, I say, "BULL!" Nobody but nobody can guarantee that a street race will be safe, and that no innocent person will wander upon the race. Street racing is done on public roads, that are accessable to all people, therefore, there is that chance that someone who is not supposed to be there will be there.

Also: if you compare the safety requirements for tracking your car vs. what the kids consider safety equipment, there's a big difference. How many street racers put on a PROPERLY installed harness, wear a helmet, and have proper roll-over protection installed? Does the street itself meet the standards of a racetrack? Are there barriers on either side that will at least keep the cars going straight in the event of a loss of control?

Are the spectators viewing the event from a safe distance? Um, standing on the sidewalk with no barriers between the action and the spectators is NOT safe: it's a very, very dangerous place to be!

There is no way anyone can justify a street race as being safe, despite any and all precautions taken! Heck: sanctioned drag racing isn't safe, and nobody says it's safe! Seems the street racers are claiming they're safe when even the pros will admit they are taking risks and it's NOT SAFE.

That's why I am so against street racing. If you're going to do it, don't fool yourself that it's safe.

The problem is that it is illegal. Another problem is that there are a lot of young, impressionable people here: if they hear about street racing enough, they will think it's ok and try it. Pelican Parts cannot condone dangerous illegal activities.
I don't think Wayne wants to be part of a law suit of some parents whose child was killed because they got into street racing since they heard about the stories here. You think that can't happen? Guess again: remember, we live in lawsuite happy USA, and even if PelicanParts can come clean, there's wasted $$ on lawyers, court fees...etc. I think that money would be better spent on the board and PelicanParts.

I welcome any and all comments, concerns, questions...etc.
I do have one disclaimer: if you're gonna try to defend street racing's safety aspect, tread carefully.

Take it to the track.
-Zoltan.

Zoltan,
Nobody says that Pelican has to condone street racing, but I don't see any reason to ban posts about it from the board. I have seen dozens of similar posts over my years here and none of the moderators have raised a stink. Illegal? Yes, but so is speeding - which I can assure you that all of us have done at one point or another. We drive Porsches, for Christ's sake! The fact that speeding is illegal has not stopped posts like "how fast have you gone" from popping up from time to time, and I have never seen a warning against those, either.

If you put up a disclaimer about the posts in Pelican's BBS, saying that Pelican Parts is not responsible for the road actions of its members, then you are absolved. Nobody has sued Vin Diesel yet, not to mention the THOUSANDS of street-racing websites out there, so I think Pelican is as safe from lawsuits as it possibly could be.

CJFusco:
Speeding is one thing, street racing, another. It's apples and oranges.

Regarding lawsuits: sure, disclaimers are great, but Pelican Parts can still get called into the courts, where lawyers fees..etc. will come into play.

I subscribe to another car forum (MR2 club) that will delete posts and BAN members who continually discuss street racing. I don't want to do that here.

You said, "We drive Porsches, for Christ's sake!" Yeah, to that I say, "If your Porsche hasn't seen track time, then you shouldn't be driving a Porsche!" Driving a sports car doesn't mean you have to drive fast or recklessly on the street.

Street racing discussions often turn ugly and become pointless threads leading to: "It's wrong." "No it isn't"...etc. So it is better left alone.

Please understand: this is NOT the place to discuss street racing. If you want to discuss such activities, then may I suggest you hop over to:
http://streetracing.org or http://clubsi.com.

-Zoltan.
