OT- Don't drive drunk

Everyone knows they shouldn't drive dunk so don't do it. Me and my buddy were going to get some gyros and a drunk guy ran a red light and hit us head on while we were stopped. How he hit us, I don't know. I'm pretty sure my Jetta is totaled though. He hit us about 50 mph and we spun 180' and kept going in the opposite direction, I'm glad no one was behind us. He hit us so hard the dash is bent and my pedals moved. After I took the car out of gear, I had the clutch in when we were hit and I guess I let it out after we were hit, and somehow we kept moving, my door would not open. Since my airbag light came on two weeks ago they airbags did not deploy. Basically both fenders are bent, drivers side all the way into the wheel, bumper is trashed, lights trashed, couldn't find the grill or anything resembling, hood is bent up, leaking fluids, radiator is trashed, and a hub cap on the back tire flew off. Now hopefully I can start shopping for another 944. Don't drive drunk.. Sorry this is Off Topic.

Glad your OK. You should sue the crap out of the drunk bastard. There should exist a federal law that madates 1 year in prison for the first DUII, 5 years for the second DUII and life for the third DUII. Our justice system sucks.

You were right Frank B, I can't sue the guy because he is an immigrant and I don't want to give him any more trouble thatn it's worth. All I want is to get a fair value for my car. Do you guys think with the damage listed it will be totaled?

Yep! both front fenders, hood, grill, lights, radiator, radiator core support, a/c condensor/ a/c recharge, bumper, inner frame damage, suspension damage(a-arms possibly?) and oh yeah the airbag system is inoperative, that needs to be repaired too if they're doing the front repairs. Your car is 7 years old now, if it was less than five they might opt to fix it but I don't think they will. If they do want to fix it, fight it, ask for new orig. parts or something. I sure wouldn't want to drive something that got hit by 50mph object! It won't be the same, it will be pieced together. Glad you're alright!

youre very lucky, unfortunate about ur car. just 2 nites ago a 19 plowed off the road and into a farm section that had a party going and she hit 20 people, fencing, a power pole and 1 km later a ditch. she has 30-odd charges against her including murder- a 16yr old girl died

No. If there was a more accurate test, I would agree, but I don't think that if I go watch a game and have a brew or 3 in the 2 hours or so I'm there, that I should risk a year in prison just because I blow a .5 or .8, or even a 1.0. Before you start in, I had an aunt, my favorite aunt killed by a drunk driver, and I think he and all those like him should serve much, much more severe penalties that are in place. If you go drink enough to reach a stupor, and then get behind the wheel, it should be attempted murder. If you kill someone, that's murder 1 in my book. You know when you are too phuct (that's my Vietnamese dentist's name, not a curse word simulation) up to drive. You know when you shouldn't drive, and you get pulled over and blow a 1.5 or better, you should be charged accordingly.

Of course, I'm in favour of inventing a commonsensealyzer. Blow a .2 or less, and you lose your car, license, and 2 of your closest friends. ok, not the friends. But there needs to be a better way of finding out how drunk you are than the current standards/tests. I also feel the same way about drug screens, fyi. Just because I took a bong rip or two at a party is no reason I should have to suffer any consequences if I get in an accident at work and have to take a wiz quiz for insurance reasons and flunk it 10 days after the token offense. It's just B.S. I never do drugs or alcohol at work, and to be punished for a casual thing I did off duty is just unfair. It's G.D. unAmerican.

just my 2½&cent worth.

Both were cops ,My brothe a state trooper, My sister in law a us marshal, happend into a drunk driver who couldnt navigate the oncoming traffic or terrain . its no joke. speed and alcohol kills.

Airbags always make some sort of difference.. wtf are you talking about?.. that's ridiculous.. it's like saying your seat belt won't make a different..have you ever been in an accident with and without airbags?.. well, I have I tore a beautiful 69 CamaroRS IN HALF.. I still don't know how I lived through that one and I had a 35 mph skidding into the back of someone accident (I was a passenger) in an explorer.. the air bags worked well, and saved me alot damage.

Trevor..If I read you correctly, you are a charitable individual, but immigrant or no, by not going after him you are possibly sending the wrong message and he just might do it again with even more tragic results.

IMHO, worse that drunken drivers are the attorneys who blithely advertise on TV that, despite the situation, they can get anyone's license back. How do these people sleep at night?

Frank why so much hostility? If you are not injured in an accident without airbags you are lucky. If you were uninjured would the airbags help you be less uninjured? This is not ment to be a debate against airbags. They are a good idea. I belive in saftey. I guess I just dont understand your response.

Why are the current tests not accurate? Who said they weren't? I've been in law enforcement for about six years now and I say the tests are just fine.

Why? Again what's wrong with the Standardized Field Sobriety Test?

Why do drugs at all? Last time I checked controlled substances were illegal. I know your better than that.

Actually your wrong. It is American. We have laws in this country and to disobey them is unAmerican.

The Standardized Field Sobriety Test is a judgement call given by some narrow minded dungheap with a chip on his shoulder. Your OPINION on whether I'm drunk enough to go to jail is NOT a fair test that could send me to a federal prison for a year. Even the breathalyzer test reads differently with time. How many people would you sent to prison because you caught them a half an hour later into the party than the guy you just let go, who is now drunk as the guy you're about to send to PRISON for a YEAR? You can't seriously suggest that anything less than a blood test should be used to bereft a man of a year of his life.

Someday you'll wake up and find the gov't doesn't really have your best interests in mind when it passes laws, and you may also find out there ain't no Santa Clause, and there are people who Drink and drive, cheat on thier taxes, do drugs, play rock n roll too loud, litter, run stop signs and do all kinds of things that, when you checked, they were illegal. Laws change every day, maybe you should check more often. Marijuana is outlawed by the Feds, but is legal for Med. purposes in California. Feefer Madness running amok, copper.

Actually, the wrongness is burdened on you. If you say you never broke a law that was adopted by this country, you are a liar. The worst kind of liar. Take your holier than thou attitude and fit it analy.

Trevor, Glad you ok man! Give me a call, maybe I can help out. I do suspect its totalled though. Check your KBB pricing to get a fair value...
I just feel that we need more personal responsibility for our own actions. I know laws are needed but I feel we as a people are over policed and its getting worse with this current Police state freedom robbing Pres nitwit...Why don't they ever charge the Oil companies with Illegal price gouging?

I think you can request that a blood test be taken if you desire(?), thus negating the possible biased officer.

Unfortunately, a lot of people I knew in school didn't think twice about drinking and driving. Guy I knew had just gotten a mint 924S and wrecked it about 2 mos later cause he was drunk. Also wrecked a parked car. I was glad when I heard he would be off the road, lucky for the world he only hurt himself. It made me happy he lost his car, license,+ $10,000.

I personally won't drive after even a drink, not claiming that I'm superior just that I truly don't feel comfortable with being compromised while driving (drunk, drugged, sleepy, phone). I never understood whats so hard about it. Taxis aren't that expensive. Neither are buses. Find a ride, even walk and add some years to your life with the exercise. These jerks I knew would drive blitzed crazy to save a 5 minute walk on a nice night. Drunks kill, raise our insurance, lower our speed limits, clog our hospitals & court systems.

If your wife/gf/child/friend got killed by a drunk, it would be tragic. Many of you know someone close that was killed by a drunk. I have known people killed + permanently maimed. Drunk drivers really are scumbags. No way around it.

Thanks a lot everyone. The adjuster is suppose to call me today or tomorrow. Doug, you've got mail. If anyone needs Jetta parts I might see what they want for it and part it out. Thanks again.
