Mobil 1 or swepco are proplar choices.

If you plan on changing the oil every 3k miles, stick to regular dino juice.

Thanks. Typically, how long will synthetic last. I heard it is better if you only use synthetic every few oil changes. Anyone know if that is true or not.

full synthetic will not show any appreciable breakdown until at least 20k; the only problem with letting it stay in there that long is unfiltered foreign objects. wish our 944's had a top-loading filter element like my bmw...it i change filter every 5k and syn oil 10k.

Want to know which viscosity is right for your 944? Go here and find out what viscosity is best for your 944. I found out on my temperature range that I need 15W-50W Mobil1 oil.

I would recommend mobil 1 15/50. my 944 S2 seems very happy on this, unless you are in a location with cold winters.

Porsches recommended oil change for the 944 S2, Boxster, and new 911s is 15K miles (!), with Mobil 1. So 10K should be perfectly safe. As my car has reach 112K with no apparent engine wear with 15K oil changes and mobil 1 (done by previous owner), I feel safe running 10K oil changes (though lots of people on this board will tell you they run 3K changes. Are they wasting their money? Don't know.). No harm in changing the filter every 5K though and filters are cheap.

Mark
