Lightbulb 944S surprize

Unbelievable, I bought a 1988 944s that the tensioner had failed, as a project. I pulled the Head today and not one valve is bent.
Now if I can get the Head repaired where it cracked, and find a set of cams, and get a new tensioner.

1. take that head to machine shop that is familiar with 944 heads

2. Unless someone has had the valves out and checked these valves...don't consider yourself lucky just yet.

3. Have your guides checked/replaced if necessary

4. All valve seals need to be replaced.

5. If the head was cracked due to the tensioner failing....99% you bent a valve.

6. S heads are not cheap.... but depending on how bad the crack is you may be able to have it repaired....

Sorry I don't sound encouraging....but an S heads that fails is not a happy event.

Good luck!

I appreciate the guidance. I know that whatever happens it is not going to be cheap. I just thought that after hearing about valves always being bent , and being a technician I have seen some catastrophic valve damage, that these do not appear to be.

Does anyone know of a machine shop in the atlanta GA area familiar with 944 engines?
