My odometer/trip meter has stopped running. Is this a big or expensive job to fix? I assume it might be just a bad cable or something. Any ideas?

You probably have a broken odometer gear, it happens a lot in these cars. You can buy new gears online, they are around 30 - 40 dollars. I hear that it is not too hard of a job.

I replaced my odometer gear a couple of weeks ago. The KLA industries procedure was easy to follow, it should take maybe an hour if you have the parts ready before hand. I also changed the lens/reflector assembly and replaced the 2W bulbs with 3.78W Sylvania 194s as recommended by Clark's Garage (found them at Pepboy's, though Clark's says they aren't usually available there. They had a ton of them), which made a huge difference at night. Might want to think about that while you have the cluster out. I had to get a 24mm socket for the steering wheel nut, but the only tools you need besides that are some screwdrivers, and something to mark the steering wheel location relative to the shaft before you pull it off.

I have been looking around for an odometer gear for the late 944's 85.5+ and so far have only found the KLA one. Does anyone know of any other place that sells them? I would rather not have to pay 40 bucks for one.

$40 is a steal compared to paying an odometer shop to refurb yours or buying a used one with screwy milage. Yeah, it's only a piece of plastic, but the time that Scott (and crew) invested and the mold that they made are not cheap. If you are a Rennlist member, you get 10% off. Every product that I have purchased thru them has been first rate, well worth the money. The odo gear and strut brace really are a bargain, and my 968 rear wing is on the way to my house from them as I type. I can report back on the wuality of that after I paint it Guards Red and do the install, if anyone is interested....
