Pelican on Wheeler Dealers

I saw Mike Brewer shopping in the Pelican vault on "Wheeler Dealers" after His co-star managed to distroy the value of the 924 by calling it "the worst Porsche ever". Sure.
I've owned British cars and most of them fit into that category.
To support this creep Ant after he slams a car that many people love has drove most of my business to your competition.

You have to take his reference to it with a grain of salt - the producers come up with the script. A few minutes later, he goes on to say that the 924 likely saved Porsche from going out of business; so that has to account for something.

Porsche has a long history of 'saving' 4-cylinder cars dating back to 1965 when the 912 was produced (European market only for MY65). The lowly 912 out sold the 911 2-to-1 during MY66/67. And where is Porsche now? 718 Boxsters and Caymans...

Ok, I am sort of biased!

I can understand that the Brits statement is an uninformed comment but how about potential buyers of the model? This is a popular show and seen by millions. What the mechanic says has value. Even if it's his opinion and does a disservice to the rest of the 924/928/944/968 community.

I admit that I really stopped watching that show after Edd China left but I was curious to see if Ant/Mike would provide some value to the 924 build, especially with the interior "bits" (how many times can Ant say "bits" in one show?).

I don't watch a lot of shows like this, but my buddy who does said to tune in last night for the 924 since he knows I have one (S). I enjoyed it, and unlike other shows like this I've seen, it looks like Ant actually does some creative things and actually shows mechanical stuff - most of these kind of shows just seem like guys putting new paint jobs, wheels, and other shiny things on the cars. I enjoyed watching him fab up the shift linkage, though for the price of the stuff on only944.com, probably could have just bought the stuff for about the same cash.

That said, I did get annoyed at the end where they're adding up all their budget, but somehow that full, great-condition interior and seats were only like $1500...? haha.

Also thought he was overblowing it on the value from the start. IDK if a '77 is more valuable for age reasons, but there's a really nice 924S on CL locally for 3k that looks to be in really nice condition (nicer than mine, for that matter). early 924s show up on CL around here all the time for like $1k in "meh" condition. Both of my S's were $1k each, complete cars in so-so shape but probably as nice as that one he paid what...$3700 for on the show?

Out of curiosity, Swennydawg, what would you say IS the worst Porsche (at least, the worst vintage porsche)?

Worst Porsche? I love the brand and I don't want to offend anyone but....let's say a 911 with an IMS bearing that when fails can be catastrophic? I would still buy one and pull the engine and repair but I'm married to a 2.5 liter that's only 31 years old.

Probably not the worst overall Porsche but maybe the worst front engined Porsche. Worst rear engined I’d say the 912E and worst mid engined has to be the 914/4. Talking base models only, obviously the 924 Carrera GT is something spectacular.

I'll disagree with you regarding the worst front engine Porsche ever but regarding wheeler dealers I'll watch curling instead and wait for Edd China's new episodes of "Edd China's Garage Revival" to come out.

I finally watched this episode. It really was lacking. No timing setting, no proper way to tension the belt, no how to removed rusted seat bolts, no slow windows...
Seriously how many of us have the tools and skills to fabricate all the shift links he did?
Correct me please if I’m wrong, but Edd made us, me at least, feel we could do it. Maybe I liked Edds style more. I’m sure Ant is an accomplished mechanic in his own right and probably it’s the editing that’s not doing him any favors, nonetheless I found the new WD wholly lacking in what interests guys like me. I’ll keep watching but mostly as background filler when I’m doing something more important.

I miss Edd. He was a regular guy. This Ant dude tries too hard to be Edd. It seems the show's basic tips for the average guy have been passed over for more fluffily showy stuff. Edd left big shoes to fill, big shoes to fill..................Ahhhh, Sideshow Bob!!!!!!
