Rear Sway Bar Bushiings
I installed the sway bars from a 951 on my 924. Currently have a loud clunk in the right rear. On inspection I saw that the sway bar bushing(18mm I think) on the torsion bar carrier is split with a cut back toward the t-bar tube. Is it supposed to be solid or split? If it is split is there a proper orientation for it?

The Porsche bushes are split, some of the aftermarket are not. Orientation is obvious as they only fit one way.

Thanks, I'll keep looking. I've got the shock off and the sway bar disconnected, I'm going to drive it a bit( I only have to go about 1/2 mile RT) and if its still there it is probably the trailing arm bushing. This is an early 924 where the TB carrier is bolted solid to the chassis, not the later version

Found it took shock off and disconnected sway bar. The sound disappeared. So I inspected the sway bar links which looked good and hooked it back up. The clunk was still gone. Reinstalled shock and got it good and tight and the clunk remained gone-problem solved.
Got a new question. the shock bolt holes in the steel trailing arm appear almost over size. Has it been necessary at times to find a washer closer to the bolt diameter and weld it/them to the steel housing for a tighter fit? |
