FS:'88 944/924S motor and DME

This motor has about 97K miles on it. The motor comes out of a car that was my pride and joy that was unfortunately wrecked by my son. (See the before and after pictures below. This is the higher compression, 158 HP motor. It is in very good condition. In the last 1000 miles, it had all new belts, rollers and seals. It has a complete new clutch and even had the gasket and seals redone on the oil cooler. Come hear it run as it is still in the car! I have receipts for all work. I'm asking $1200 or best offer for the motor with everything, including the complete wiring harness and clutch and except the power steering pump and AC compressor.

Also for sale is the DME computer with an FR Wilk performance chip. With this chip you can choose original performance map or higher performance. I'm asking $200 for the DME with chip. (The motor must be sold before the DME, so I can demo the motor in the car.)

Yes, fast924s is correct. The 88 has 10.2:1 and the earlier 944/924S motors had 9.5:1 if I recall correctly. The higher compression results in 158 HP vs 143 in the earleir cars. It is noticably quicker.... let me know how interested you are....

CK,

I am very interested..

I blew my motor last weekend racing with the 944 Cup series need a new one. I have no idea how old the clutch is so I am going to replace that too.

I am trying to decide if I want to build a race motor or go with a stock "more powerful" motor.

Do you have an e-mail address where we can correspond?

thanks

Will that DME work in a 1983 Porsche 944? If so do you still have?

The DME won't work on the early cars. Also, you can get the same Compression ratio as the 1988 cars by shaving the head down on any of the earlier cars. In the 944 spec racing class, we have many cars with 88 engines and they aren't running away from the earlier cars with the shaved heads. You can't shave the head AND run the higher compression 10.2:1 pistons because you'll be over the max limit of 10.5:1 compression ratio for the 944 spec class. We like to keep the cars cheap and equal.

Just out of curiosity, how much can the early heads be shaved before you end up with timing problems?

I'm not sure. Never learned because by that point, they're way out of 944 spec rules!
