Post Porsche Mileage

I have been wanting to buy a Porsche 944 from the mid 80's for a while now and I was wondering approx. how many miles do the engines last on average. Like would it be stupid to buy a 944 with 100000 miles or would it last me until 200000? Thanx to anyone who replys

Hey welcome to the board.

It all comes down to how well the previous owner took care of the car, timing belt change, oil, etc and how they drove it.

Like any other car it needs to be maintained.

I have an 87 944 with 114,000 on it. This used to be my daily driver but not anymore. (bought a new car) I haven't really had any major problems with it. I've heard of 944's with over 200,000 on them.

I am sure you shouldnt have a problem with the engine lasting 200K or more if its taken care of. I know of a guy who has a 84 which he put about 350K before the engine got too tired. best of luck to ya!

I have had an 83 944 for 15 years, approx.
180,000 miles with no problems.
Just perform routine maint., like the other person who responded suggested, belts, oil, etc. Check out the water pump, radiator condition. My engine still runs great.

I've got an early 85 with 184,000 miles on it and it is a very solid, strong running daily driver. Got some rattles, but you should expect that. Top end of engine was rebuilt, transaxle was rebuilt, oil changed religiously every 3k.

Mine's a '89 turbo with 270k KM (180k Miles?) on it. It drives like a car which needs the valve guide seals replacing. Funnily enough.........

Runs fine

I have a 1986 944 Turbo w/ 250K (conservative estimate as ODO stopped at 217K in Jan 1999).
New head and rod bearings at 150K, belts every 30K and waterpump every 60K, oil at regular intervals. I also have a 1987 924S w/ 165K that is in EXCELLENT shape, same maintenence schedule. Both of my car runs real strong but are well maintained. Just get one w/ records of things done to it and get a leakdown (for valve health diag.) and compression check (for ring health). These cars are increadibly robust and 300K is very doable on orig. engine.
