944 5-lug suspension and brakes for 924 upgrade

Complete sprung elements removed intact from an 85 844: front and rear control arms and spindle/hub assemblies with brake rotors and calipers. Great upgrade for 924s with the old 4-bolt suspension. $300 OBO plus shipping from zip 76544 in central Texas.

The 924/914/early 911/912/Vw Bugs/ Not the 924S, have the 4 lug. 924S already has early 944 5 lug hubs on late offest.
Hope that helps.

I think he meant "924's", not 924s (924S)

That's why I always capitalize the model 924S, not 924s.

Indeed - "924s" is a pluralization of 924, not a reference to the 944-powertrain-based 924S, which already has the same suspension. The early 944 suspension is essentially the same thing as the 5-bolt sport suspension option for the 924.

Actually, the 924S suspension was a hybrid of early and late 944 suspension. Alu rear trailing arms, but steel front control arms. pre-86 944 had all steel, 86-onward 944 had all alu.

But yes, this would be a nice (if not partial) upgrade for a 1977-1982 924/931 2.0L with four-lug suspension. It is necessary to also get the 2 piece handbrake cable AND linkage (the part that attaches to the in-cabin lever), as well as the brake booster and master to do a proper conversion. The handbrake cable for the four lug will not work, and the linkage is too short to accommodate the longer alu trailing arms, so you need both pieces. You might also want to specify if this setup includes the handbrake shoes and adjustment bits, as those will be required if they're not included.

Also, the early 2.0L 924 had diagonal split regardless of 4- or 5-lug, and the cylinder was not stepped. Technically you can "get by" without doing that part of the conversion, but it is strongly recommended to go with the front-rear split on the 944/924S setup, along with the properly stepped master cylinder and the properly matched servo in the booster.

One other optional component that would be worth "throwing in" to this package is the adjustable spring plates. The really early four lug spring plates will NOT work with the five lug stuff as the bolt pattern is just slightly different.

...all good info for those timid/curious about this very good upgrade for the 924...for those who are home-engineering-minded there are work-arounds as mentioned. The ones with the greatest potential (key word) amount of work to do/parts to replace are the pre-77.5 924 owners with the simplified rear suspension.

A lot of the stuff mentioned will potentially also be available from the donor 944. I will be ripping it apart over the course of the next week or so, it has to be gone from my storage.
