Thanks, Ed.

Murf, do you happen to have a spare cooler pump drive gear that bolts onto an LSD unit?

I think maybe the kind that go on under the diff bearing are for the non lsd differentials and the ones that bolt on the the diff are for the lsd diffs. You may want to check into that and make sure. I am not certain of it but that seems to be what I have seen. If you use the the one that goes under the bearing on a diff that isn't supposed to be that way you may have a bearing spacing/shimming issue.

Maybe someone who knows can confirm.

Rumors have it that the LSD uses a different spline count than the non-LSD. Does this come with the stub shafts that bolt to the CV/Axles?

Pics?

Thanks, Keith

7V is a late tranny w/ LSD.
8Q is an early tranny w/ LSD.

Hey Keith,

I swapped some stub axles off an early LSD trans and put them on an early open diff trans just last week with no problems at all. Now I have to find some replacement ones for the LSD trans before it's picked up. Just trying to help.

John

TNT is right the turbo LSD factory units form the 951, S2 and 944 S with 220 option code have the larger axle flanges with different spline count and will not work with the non LSD type.

However the 944 NA transaxles with LSD have the same axles and spline count as the non LSD diff's

This is getting WAY confusing.

I had heard that the LSD's were the same (Except for the AOR trannies which have the thicker friction plates, which are now replacements for all LSD units) for the turbos and NA's, or at least some people have (I think) put NA LSD units into their Turbo transmissions. If the spline counts are different, then what else needs to be swapped in?

Basically I want the answer to this:

If I have a non-LSD late turbo (UY) transmission and I wanted to put an NA LSD into it, what else is required?

If I had a Turbo LSD, what else is required?

Thanks, Keith

Keith you can purchase a early 944 LSD unit and install it into your UY transaxle with your UY axle flanges. However if you purchase a later 951 style LSD unit you will need the different axle flanges to match it, as the later style LSD units have the beefier more spline count flanges!

If you guys look up the part # for the earlier style LSD which looks the same by he way it will superceed it to the newer turbo style.
