So in other words you want one of the most unusual and desirable 944-line engines available - presumably including the head, but you want to get it for next to nothing.

Uh-huh. Good luck with that.

Where do these people keep coming from and who keeps letting them in here?

Not to be a jerk, but you're GOING to pay "top dollar" for any 16V 944 engine versus a "plain vanilla" 8V variant. FWIW the 8V models are quite stout and can make a lot of power. You may seriously want to give those a look if you're trying to do whatever it is you're trying to do somewhat inexpensively. When stuff has to be replaced on a 16V head, it's considerably more expensive because there simply aren't as many of them out there (supply/demand).

When you come onto a PORSCHE forum with six posts saying essentially "I want an unusual/exotic engine and I want to pay you J.S. for it" it's not going to be received well - generally speaking. Not trying to be too much of a jerk, but it's like showing up at the Hilton saying "I want a room - got any for 20 bucks?"

Good luck with the project. Seriously, give the 2.5L 8V engines a look.

I have a 16v 2.5L 80% stripped. Suffered a spun bearing. Head is ready for rebuilding, resurface or replace crank and rod, etc. I might let it go for $1200 plus shipping.
