There all identical from '83 - '91 on ALL 944 5 speeds and automatics and '92 - '95 968 AUTOMATIC only, save for the safety hooks on rear over suspension carrier for accident protection as those are slightly different throughout the years. However its best to find the newest one you can! So that would be the 968 automatic cars ONLY automatic 968 only! Its a misnomer that the NA and turbo and S2 have different size driveshafts, there all identical in size, length ad bearing placement.

Good luck, I dont want to discourage you but after spending 2 days working on your transaxle, exhaust, starter etc.. to remove and replace I would spend a few extra hundred $$$ and get a rebuilt one in there that will give you 20 years of service. Time is the culprit here and 20 years is the most you can expect out of any TT that has not been on a garage queen low mileage car but then those dont need to be replaced do they?

The 89 to 92 S2's have a approximately 1 foot long by 1/4 wide slit in the tube intended to reduce driveline vibrations by the factory , hence the different part no's and prices.

The bearing carriers are different between the newer torque tube and the older torque tube. The older bearing carriers are riveted together whereas the newer ones are not.
