1983 944 Whole or parting out

We recently acquired a 1983 Porsche 944 (non-turbo) from an elderly family friend. I do not know much on the history of the vehicle, but we told him we would try to part out the vehicle for him. We own a 911, but I haven't had any experience with 944's. If you see a part you are interested in, give me an offer, I'm open to anything :-)
The PO actually took apart some of the car and acquired some parts from a 924, and its all been sort of jumbled together.

The body is in pretty good shape, there are some paint issues, but I didn't see any rust. We have 2 rear hatch windows, 2 sunroofs (one red & one primer white) There is a transmission. And we have a motor from the 924, but there is NOT a 944 motor. We do have a 944 torque tube. The front fenders are in good shape, just not on the car. Paint is crackling but no rust.

I realized that only a few pictures uploaded. I have added 75 more pictures There are now pictures of the red seats, and some of the other parts I have available.

And here's some pictures: The forum will not let me upload all of the ones we took so I have created a photobucket album. Thanks for looking!!

The car is not a running car... no motor. So no fire extinguisher needed.... although I keep one handy anyways, just smart around all Porsches. The 924 motor that we do have runs very very well, just not in the 944 of course.

I have no idea if its been wrecked, the PO said never, but who knows.

The parts are definitely all jumbled together, ex: I have a rear hatch cover for a 924. Don't ask me why he acquired that for his 944 collection. He had some grand plans that basically translated into him buying misc. parts and storing them. So now I'm selling them.

We've had lots of interest in a lot of these parts. I think we're going to go with the parting out option. Thanks for the offer.

So if anyone is looking for parts let me know! I have it listed locally as well, but I am willing to ship parts.

Pyregrine, From the condition of the car, it would be simpilist to just part it out as the condition it is in you may be able to glean maybe 300.00 from a sale of the "whole car" Look at ebay or even the listings here on Pelican for suggested pricing on individual components..It really is too bad that the car is as dismantled as it is..

Gordon, Thank you, I've taken your advice and have been using this site and eBay to research some prices. I decided not to sell it whole because of all of the interest in big parts... and like you said, its pretty sad someone took it apart this much

@Cocacolakidd, I will check for that part, does it only pop up when the sunroof is open? I've never actually opened the sunroof. If I find it how does $15 for part, $15 for shipping sound? Like I said, I'm open to all offers I know 911 parts better than I know 944!

For everyone that's PM'd and asked questions, I returned all messages. Also, I'm located in Dayton Ohio if that helps to figure out shipping/picking up parts. My apologies for not putting that up in the first post.

Again, thanks for everyone's interest and patience with a girl's first car part out

Wasn't trying to discriminate that way - It's just that not many boys or girls are wrenching on a Porsche -

My EX was a Diesel Mechanic - also rare for a girl...

The part actually slides into the front of the sunroof when mounted - only see it when sunroof is off/out of car-

Price and shipping sounds good - if complete and in good shape - Pay Pal ?

Thanks.

my husband is a mechanic, so he helps with all the things I'm still learning. I am in the shop all the time doing basic maintenance, brake, gaskets, oil, etc. The dismantling of this car has been an adventure for me. But don't worry, my husband provides the 'adult' supervision. There's no better way to learn cars than to take one apart :-)

I'm heading to the shop here in a few minutes to make sure that sunroof piece is on the car. Ill let ya know!

@ cocacolakidd: Is this the part you want? The brackets on the end seem to be a bit worse for the wear but the black part isnt bad. There is a little bit of red paint rubbed off on the side without the cutouts.

@jcporsche: The carpet is not very good. The door panels seem ok, there's some pictures in the photobucket link, I can get some closer ones if you would like. There are some good condition brown roof pieces that go around the sunroof. And the carpet pieces in the back are probably ok. Interested in further info?

@fwayfarer, This is why I'm posting pictures of exactly what the part looks like, so the buyer can decide if they want the part. I will not be dishonest with anyone on here, and its their final decision as to if they want to purchase the item.

I will not get into an argument with you on this forum about the car, in fact I tried to ignore your negativity. But you seem to have issue with my post so I am responding just once so people on here don't think I will be dishonest. fway, If you are not interested in buying any parts, that's your choice, but as I said in my first post I would 'consider selling the whole car'. I decided to not sell the whole car... I'm sorry you are upset with my decision, but that's my prerogative to choose what to do with my property. I had 15 offers on parts before I received your mention of interest, would you have me tell all those people 'o sorry I cant sell you the part you really need because someone else now wants it all'? You did not offer a price, but only picked apart the vehicle, and you didn't even want all of it "100% not be interested in the 924 motor". I'm not interested in creating drama on here, so if you are not interested in a part, kindly refrain from commenting. Thank you for your time.

My apologies to everyone else who had to read this. You have my promise that any items I list are as described. And my thanks to everyone who has helped me figure out where parts are located on the car. If you have concerns about a part that you expressed interest in, I will gladly take pictures from all angles. Offer me anything, I truly am just doing this for the experience and the joy of learning about cars. I'm having more fun taking a car apart than I thought I would

Wow. You're that offended I was honest about the condition of the items you have for sale. Ok. Best of luck with your sale here. Wont derail you any more.

Sorry but there seems to be all kinds of people around, and sometimes just when one doesn't need them. There will always be those people who have their torque wrench set much to high, and get it jammed up someplace.

Normally we are a friendly group, and we like to buy, sell and trade that way. So Pyregrine I hope you are still OK with it around here, as this kind of junk shouldn't happen.

Sooo OK, back the sunroof visor... Thanks for the picture of it as that describes allot. Mine looks just like that and I was hoping to get a up-grade that way. I do appreciate your extra time to post the reply as to me it shows good faith efforts to be easier to deal with.

Again thanks, Ed.
