'88 has the oil level sensor in it. '86 pan won't cross over.

oil pick up tubes

I don't have the pan but I do have nice set of oil pick up tubes from '89 turbo.

i dont care for the oil level sensor
how does one make the early pan fit onto a 88? jus get the matching set of pick up pipes?

I have a 1988 turbo pan - nice condition except for small chips on corner fins of lower sump (Will fit all 87 up 944 and all 951). Includes oil level sensor -

...$50.00 + ship

Yes, but the 88 pan has its advantages. It is one of the ways that Porsche helped with the oiling issue on the 944.
