How to ship a hatch?

For those of you that have sold and shipped out the rear hatch, how did you pack it and what was the cost of shipping it?

I will have one off my '87 for sale very soon, I just want to check on the details before I post it.

Thanks

I've never tried shipping one - I think you would have to send it freight. Only get $50 each for them locally so it isn't worth it.

Yes cardboard box with lots of big styrafoam around it, then the box goes into lightweight wood crate. Give yourself about 3 - 4 hrs to get this stuff at local places that are getting rid of crates and big boxes for free then pack it up and hip it off at freight which is around $300 + depending on destination. So as you can see the only real hatches that people do this with are '91 944 S2 and 968 units.

Send a message via AIM to Pettybird
or you could throw something heavy at it and have the satisfaction of watching it shatter. it's cooler than you're giving it credit for.

Take a hammer and beat into small pieces. That way it will fit in a smaller box and cost less to ship. It will probably arrive broken anyway.

Pffft. Whoever's selling is either getting robbed or stealing 'em & then selling 'em.

They seem to sell for like $ 50 -$ 150 locally. With old glass being brittle, I don't think I would risk mailing it.
