Andrew,

In theory the polishing isn't that hard as it only has three main steps:
- Stripping the paint
- Sanding the surface smooth
- Polishing the metal to a luster

But each of those steps is quite involved, and can take quite a bit of time in a home garage.

Stripping - Can be done with aircraft stripper, media blasting, or sanding.
Sanding - Has to be done in stages, I started with 220 grit and worked up in steps (220 only used where damage needed to be removed), and then went to 400, 800, 1000, and 1500.
Polishing - I used two different compounds of polish and a buffling wheel on an electric drill.

Because these wheels didn't have paint on them when I got them I avoided step one, but it still took the better part of two days to get them to their present state, and while they have a nice rich luster, they are not perfect.

It could be home made, if so it was nicely done, or it an out of production strut bar from some other source, difficult for me to say.

Pretty sure that was made by a guy who use to race 944 Cup, very beefy bar, don't think he made a lot of them.

It was indeed a lot of hand sanding, my hands aged 10 years trying to get these things polished.
