Can you explain how the manual latches work?

So I could take out the motor and cable to save weight right? And then what else needs to be done? Can it still be in the raised position while driving?

With a stock manual setup, with very similar latches, if not the same, you can drive the car with it popped up no problem. The tabs sit right in the groove around the sunroof and stay put at any speed, and over bumps or whatever.

Thats correct the 1983 944 uses these manual latches that fit all 1983 - 1995 944-968 cars and sunroof panel. You simply pull and twist a mechanical lever/lock and up it goes for easy propped up driving with front latches still locked like bennkishh says or you can remove completely for storing in garage or back hatch area for full open top.

The 1983 944 had a little leather strap attached to sunroof panel trim that snapped into place on car so as not to bounce way up for safety but unless you drive crazy or go over a huge bump at speed you would not have a problem as the front latches are still locked in.

I assume this kit was sold. Anyone else has this to sell?

kdjones2000 07-10-2014 06:59 AM

I have a set from a 1978 924. I am not sure if they bolt up in exactly the same way as the 944's do, however.

I'll take some pictures and send them your way.

Cheers, Keith
