Warning: Parts Scam from UK

Forum members,

I want to give you a heads up on a scam that I just experienced from the UK in which people are accessing this forum (or scanning it with software) and responding to "WTB" (want to buy) ads posted for parts and tools. In my case, I posted a WTB ad for a 1969 911 tool kit for my wife's car and got ripped off.

Here's how it works:

(1) You receive a generic email asking if you still need help with your parts purchase. The sending email will be a Gmail account (eg.;

(2) The scammer will actually send you pictures of the Porsche parts, but the pictures do not belong to them (I actually received two different emails from two different scammers five days apart using the same tool pictures -- see attached).

(3) The sender claims his Paypal account is dormant and so you need to send wire or MoneyGram. OK - so this should have been a red flag, but I was eager to the get the tool kit.

(4) The scammer agrees to pay shipping to the USA and says they will send via UPS with tracking number, however, after payment is received they email back saying UPS was too expensive so they shipped the item using First Flight Courier.

(5) The scammer then sends an email saying First Flight Courier notified them that the parts items are held up in UK Customs and require an additional payment for export duty, so they need you to send them more money. You will receive a bogus website for First Flight Courier (First Flight Couriers Ltd.) when the real website is First Flight Couriers Ltd.). I called First Flight Courier and they DO NOT SHIP TO THE USA and have confirmed this scam by UK perpetrators before.

The bogus seller names & addresses used include:

Terry Blinks
22 York Street W1U 6DP London, United Kingdom
+44 702 404 7916

Daniel Webb
32 High St, Epping CM16 4AQ, United Kingdom

Even if you ask for close up pictures of the parts item (in my case, I asked for the "10,000 volts" stamp on the screwdrivers), the scammer is able to provide them.
