Transaxle simplification

Presently, I have a 1984 944 N/A. I recently shredded the pinion and diff. Now I'm looking to replace this unit and wanted to know if it's a good idea to put in a turbo transaxle instead of the na. Any opinions are welcome.

Bad idea. Gearing will make your NA 944 a slug. 951 trannies are more $$ also. Find another tranny from a dismantler and install that. Make sure you read the code on top of the bell housing to see what it started life as. Your car prob came with a QM code - regular gears and tall 5th. Keep the old one for parts. Prices are going up fast.

It depends.
If your car is a street car, it's fine.
As a track car it could be an issue by not having enough gear multiplication coming out of low speed corners.

I have had a turbo transaxle in my street NA since 2009 and love it - I can do 42 mph or so in 1st and 72ish in 2nd, 105 in 3rd...in a straight line race my car pulls away from a stock NA easily, mostly because of the longer-legged 2nd gear.
