WTB: Parts for 924S to 924 GT Tribute

I have a laundry list of things I need for my next project. I am planning on taking a 924S and turning it into a 924 Carrera GT(S) tribute.

So here is my list:

Parts Needed (note for the CGT parts I will take replica pieces, as the OEM stuff would be worth a kings ransom)
-- 944 Fenders (sourced in gold, might be willing to still buy a black pair)
-- Seats (long term looking for some period correct buckets)
-- 924/44 Dash (Is it possible to find a crack free one?)
-- Shift boot @ plastic mounting plate (not sure what that is called)
-- Going to need a lot of the black interior trim, much of it is cracked

Parts Sourced
-- Fuchs 15s and 16s sourced
-- 924 Carrera GT Flares
-- 924 Carrera GT Bumper
-- 924 Carrera GT Hood Scoop
-- 924 Euro Rear Bumper
-- 924/44 Slicktop
-- 924 Turbo header panel with vents
-- 924 Euro front turn signals / driving lights / bumperettes
-- 924/44 door cards (black)
-- 924/44 door handle
-- 924/44 drivers side window regulator
-- 924/44 door stop mount
-- 944 hatch spoiler
-- 944 fenders
-- 944 cookie cutters

Parts For Sale
-- Fenders - $50 each
-- Lower Valance - $50
-- Headlight Covers - $20 each
-- headlight motors / assembly / everything else - $50
-- 15x6 Phone Dials - $75 each
-- Front Bumper - $50
-- Rear Bumper - SOLD
-- Passenger Door Car - $10
-- Script seats Front and Rear - $200 (script material can be saved, outer portions will need to be recovered I think)

Anyway, this is a slow project, so will try to source close to Charlotte, NC

Where we are starting from:

What does your interior look like? I'm doing (very slowly) the same thing with an 87 924S.

For your info the GT and GTS have a different front bumper; contour/fitting is the same but the front openings are not.
Rear flares were also a bit different, but hard to tell.

For the wheels, I suggest you find a set of 16inch Fuchs from an 86 944 turbo, 7&8 23mm offset. A bit pricy but worth it.

Why are you not using a 924 turbo as starting point?

Good luck with the project, I did (still working on) a GTS replica based on a 924 turbo and I love it.

I'm not sure on the interior yet, it does depend on what spec I try to pay tribute to. GT / GTS / Clubsport. I have a mind to go for the clubsport version, but if that means going with the lexan windows then I'm not sure I can go that far. Thankfully it is not a decision I need to make today.

Not using a 931, because the 924S is easier to find / has less quirks / I have a long game in mind about the motor.

The slight differences in the bumpers / flares are not a huge concern as this is more a tribute than a replica project. So there were be things that are not 100% correct along the way and I am ok with that. An example is the roll cage, if I go full Club Sport I won't use the cage design because things have evolved in the many years that have passed, and I would want it to be safe more than a replica.

For wheels, yes, the 951 fuchs are an option, but so are the 911 parts. With a slow build the bonus is I have time.

I'm sure I will need to reach out to Dan as this progresses, for now we are in the early planing stages. But he is indeed the Guru of 924s.

Klaus, I meant the interior of the car you're using. I was hoping it wasn't a 924S SE.
I also chose a 924S because while you need to start with a narrow body car, the 87-88 924S gives you the option of installing any 944 engine, up to the 968, and the suspension and pick up points are more modern. The way things are going, I'd keep a 931 close to stock for value.
On my 87 924S, I chose to go with old school BBS 16" 8's and 9's, a 924 GTR rear spoiler, 951 brakes, manual steering, 924 fuel cap and filler neck, I have 924 doors with the smaller mirrors, hand cranked windows.....and a hounds tooth interior set aside. It's been a long road just gathering all the parts from here and there. But hey, it's a dream that will be a really cool, fun custom car...........someday.

Timmay,

I'm not starting from an SE, just a regular 87 924S. Black over black, nothing special. Car is a bit rough all over, but no rust. So I think a good starting point.

Sounds like you have a nice project on your hands, lots of good pieces. If you have the GTR spoiler are you going with the GTR flares?

John, thanks for the pictures, looking forward to getting those door cards installed. Looks like I might be moving forward with the interior first.

Well the interior and the timing belt / water pump / oil change / brake fluid flush / trans axle fluid change / etc that were necessary to have the car road worthy again.
