Just completed Miss Purdy's final once over before heading out for a visit up through the Colorado Rocky Mountains. My wife and I plan on about a two week trip. Standard 928 Check List Included - the timing belt, battery, alternator, A/C, tires, trans fluid, coolant, fresh oil, filter and my lucky buffalo nickel for trouble free travel. :)

Thats a nice looking machine I hope you have a great trip .
I was going to suggest to add on some HRE wheel spacers 32MM bolt ons should work,
measure first .
This will kick the rear wheels out to fill in the fenders and give you a wider track in the back

hey michael - don't know your time schedule or route but i would get off I-25 as soon as possible - not an interesting drive - maybe take 160 west out of walsenburg to 285 if you want to head north - it eventually brings you to the west side of denver - very pretty drive - or stay on 160 west to pagosa springs and durango - both fun places - have fun - i'm here in denver so if you have "issues" send me a PM and i'll see if i can give you a hand

Not a more comfortable drive/ride than a 928 for eating up some highway time.

Like all you guys have suggested - we usually "Haul A$$" across Texas and New Mexico, then slow back down heading through Pagosa Springs and northward.

Hey Mrmerlin - I've been drooling over a set of the 996 Twist wheels for some time now. It seems like just about the time I'm ready to pull the trigger on a set of wheels for Miss Purdy - some Katastropheeee suddenly shows up and has my attention for a while. I had one of Bambi's relatives run right into the front corner of Frau Helga on a beautiful country back road not long ago. When that deer came out of the morning fog like a sidewinder missile, all I saw were the hooves going over the roof.

I almost have her back together and ready for paint.

Well, made it back safely from North New Mexico/Southern Colorado with only one glitch - my speedometer quit working . I need to pull the instrument panel and solder the speed-o circuit's rivets this time instead of just cleaning up all the edge connector contacts.

Spent most of the time on interstate trying to stay out of the way of the 18 wheelers doing 85 + mph - Yikes.... The leisurely drives on all the back country two lane roads were great. Beautiful time of the year in Sedona Az to take a doors off helicopter tour of the local canyons and didn't even fall out. :)

Yep, I can hear it now:

"Honest officer, I thought I was going 65. I couldn't imagine why all those other cars were driving so slow while I was passing them" :)

A nice drive is to take I-70 to Vail, turn off at Minturn up to Leadville, then over to Independence Pass, down to Aspen then over to Glenwood Springs. Hit the Hot Springs pool and stay at Hotel Colorado!

Clandestine Trooper -
 

The scenery around Leadville keeps us coming back to that area when up that far in Colorado. As far as my suddenly inop speedometer - I used other cars and the tach to estimate my speed. Don't know if I could have convinced a trooper of my 928 electrical issue ?

Although there were a few cars pulled over for speeding along interstate, we saw only one 18 wheeler sitting beside the road with a clandestine trooper behind him. Luckily, I had just hesitated to jump in behind this guy on a long down hill grade because of an upcoming fuel stop. Those unmarked troopers blend right in and are getting harder to spot. A week or so before leaving for parts unknown - I got a $300 ticket in a small Texas town for +10 mph over their speed limit. Didn't even see the sign change to 35 mph. My wife says I need to be more cautious - I think she needs to be more observant. :)

Fair Play Colorado is famous for tickets. If you come down the pass from Breckenridge the road is steep and then you are in town where it drops to 25 mph immediately. I think it's their main source of revenue since the town is not more than 4 or 5 blocks long.

If you use a AAA triptick (flip style map with route and info) the places with speed traps can be marked.

OTOH red Porsche tax.

Hey Danglerb - I think you're right about our potential for a "Porsche Tax". Going through several towns during our trip we picked up an inquisitive police car escort. On one occasion near Sedona, Az our escort followed us through an old back roads 1800's mining town and then to the helipad. Only after our return flight and we were past the city limits did he do a U-Turn and head home.

Good thing I'm not ppppppperonoid..... "But Officer They're Not My Pants" :)

Michael, I got pulled over outside Cleburne one day and the trooper asked for my ID and insurance. We started to chat about the car after that. He wanted to know all about it, how long I had it, how many miles it had, what kind of gas mileage it got, etc.


After about 30 minutes chatting, I realized he just wanted to look at the car. I kinda needed to get on down the road and told him so. He apologized, gave me back my credentials, and I left him to bushwhack someone else.

Cell phone and Waze.

It makes me a better driver by alerting me to road hazards, like the CHP parked around the next bend. It will also tell you your current speed and will display red when you are over the posted speed limit.
