928 engine advice needed

Hi guys. I'm sniffing around an 86 928 that is in overall fair condition but needs love. It has the 32 valve engine, a plus in my mind. Anyway, yesterday I went to look at it. Owner stated up front it needs a water pump, it's leaking badly. He dragged it out of the storage barn (it's been off the road for 2 years), hooked up booster cables to the battery cables and it fired up right away. BUT, it's noisy at the front end (like a bearing noise) - possibly the water pump AND leaking a 1/8" continuous stream of engine oil on the left (drivers) side near the rear of the engine. I can't tell where the leak is from. Are there any external oil lines? Perhaps it was overheated and it's from the head gasket? How about oil pressure sensors on the left side? Any suggestions welcomed.
The car is priced to accommodate the water pump replacement but not the oil leak problem. I'm a sucker for bringing stuff back from the dead and this might make for a good project. Thanks for your advice.

if this is a 16 valve then the oil leak is probably the rear cam tower gaskets Roger sells new silicone versions

For a 32v engine, it could be the oil cooler line or it's connection to the block. It could also be something worse. My question would be the oil level in the engine and how many times has it been run with this 1/4" stream of oil.

The car should be cheap, but get a PPI done before buying this car.

It could save you from an expensive mistake.

I am also a sucker for bringing them back from the dead. Good Luck!

Thanks for the good advice John. The car will have to be pretty cheap to go down this questionable road. More to follow, perhaps!
