Back on the Road after TB Change - Thanks

Hi,

Glad to be part of this group and have access to the resources available, information from here helped answer some questions I had during the replacement process.

Back on the road after my timing belt lost a few teeth and skipped - I've had the car for several years, haven't put many miles on it, previous owner was unsure of T-belt age - when removed I found it to be very old and degraded from oil contamination.

I replaced the front crank seal, timing belt, fully removed the smog pump (it's never been functional, I had already removed the other components and plugged the piping), installed PK tensioner, and new rear cam cover seals (silicone).

Started on the first crank on the engine.

Although I am unsure of the water pump's age, I decided not replace it at this time.

Even though the timing belt replacement job is well documented, pics can be helpful - I took a few while "in there". Let me know if a pic of something is needed, I might have one.

The car is an 81 4.5L Euro.

Thanks again to everyone.

The only time I did not replace a water pump on a car on which I did a timing belt job, the water pump crapped out 3 months later.

I'm wishing good Karma on you and hope that is not what happens to you.

You should always keep the old timing belts hanging in your garage after replacement like a garlic necklace to ward off the evil spirits that can infiltrate these cars while working on them.

Thanks, good advice.

I do plan on moving forward with a water pump replacement this winter now that the car is running.

Funny. After purchasing the car I replaced the abused dual clutch and pressure plate - I kept the gnarly pressure plate on my workbench for a long time

See? That's just good Karma working right there. If you had tossed that Pressure Plate immediately after the work was done, you would have found SOMETHING that needed to moved over to the new parts that was now gone with the trash.
