you will probably need to pull it out of the tank and evaluate it. it is possible that the float is just stuck, or that the resistance wire needs to be cleaned, or possibly that the wire has broken.

Does the low fuel light still function correctly? if not it is probably a stuck float, if the low fuel light is working like it should then probably a resistance wire issue.

To remove the sending unit, there is a round plastic cover under the rear cargo area carpet (usually covered by a piece of fiberglass fire retardant material. remove this cover to access the top of the tank. disconnect the fuel return line and electrical connections. Unthread large plastic retaining ring and then pull sending unit out of the top of the tank.

did you check electrical connections? - it could be your gauge is not getting any signal from the sending unit because there's no power at sending unit - as i remember it...one of the 3 wires on top of sending unit has power with ignition in on position - check for this first - disconnect all 3 from sending unit first - then if you jump that wire to one of the other 2 the needle should peg at full - jump it to the 3rd wire and it should light low fuel light - be careful back there - gas fumes and electrical sparks don't mix - if that checks out ..give the top of sending unit a sharp smack with a wrench - maybe if it's a stuck float that would knock it free - at least temporarily - if the tank has been empty for a long time you might be looking at a rusted out sender
