85 928....now it won't start.
OK...replaced window motors and everything was acting fine. Drove it back from the garage and still fine.
Now days later she won't start(won't even turn over)...BUT if I take out the power window relay and turn the key about 4 or 5 times it will finally turn over and start right up. Re-install the power window relay and again the engine won't even turn over. So...any ideas??? The power window relay still works the windows, but the car just won't start with it in there. So did I do something wrong or is something else just acting up. Mark 85 928S |

Here we go again...maybe a better description.
With the power window relay(PWR) plugged in the car will not turn over at all. Once I remove the PWR and wait for about 15-20 seconds the car will start every time with no failure. The windows do not work with it removed. I can put the PWR back in while the car is running and all the windows and sunroof work fine.....but the PWR gets very hot!! And will not re-start until the PWR is removed and I wait again for about 20 seconds. If this PWR is bad why do the windows still work and why does it affect the ignition system? Any ideas on a fix??? Thanks again, Mark |

mcabbott,ok,let's try something. 78 to 84,window relay #141951253b switch with no.5 relay horn relay. 85 to 88 window relay #92861512600 is a porsche part no. and aint cheap.by the way, that's the third relay from the top left.141 can be baught from vw.4$. 928international has #928651...for about $35.i'de still call vertex,1-866-668-0660. ask for gillbert,(head mech.) now, let's get an understanding of how a relay works.if pwr.came streight from fuses to switches to drive motors the amount and gage of wires would not fit under the small panels of an auto.a relay has(some relays depending on function)4 tabs. two from switch and two to motor.in the relay is an electromagnet, the switch conects a circut which electrifies the magnet pulling down an arm connecting the motor circut making it work. now, check for an unwanted auto up,auto down,(ie.)stuck window switch.928's tend to have them.pwr.being drawn from one sourse could delete pwr. from another.(ign.systm.)especially with a weak batt. i don't care what anyone says, batt's last 2 years, not 5.i doubt there's a wiring problem, chances are it's the relay.allso,a volvo part fits a 928? ya learn somethin new every day. cas.
