Porsche V8 into a Merc
I know they are not exactly the same engine, but considering they shared in some of their design and transmission bolt pattern, could they be interchanged? Porsche 928 parts may not be Chevy priced, but there is more out there in the performance world at realistic prices than Mercedes. Could the 928 be installed instead of the 5.0 Mercedes in their coupe? It would still be 10k for a great running motor versus $15k for a supercharger only and still a tired long block. I'm not expecting drop in ease, just curious of oil pan other accessories like intake mostly. Thanks for the info.

I think you are better off with either 5.0L MB engine (more out there than 928 V8) or Chevy 5.7L LT1/LS1 (even more out there than both combined). 928 V8s that are not well cared for are very expensive to repair and maintain. If you want cheap HP, I would go for LT1/LS1 from GM.

Hi!
I read your question and just had to write to you! I am installing a 928S 85' in my Volvo 240, and got curious when i read that the Mercedes V8 is simular in some ways! Do you have some information about this? I am searching for a gearbox, and it would be great if i could use an existing clutch-housing. :D |
I would go with a 6.3 or 6.9 what MBZ do you have?

The MB and 928 blocks do not share the same bolt pattern for trans mounting.
