Wiring diagram help needed
Hi,
I am in the process of restoring my center console and came across a issue that I cannot resolve without some help. Ideally someone with a color wiring diagram diagram for a ‘84 928S or someone with extensive wiring diagram might be able to help me. Here is the problem, on the center console there is the AC, central indicator and door locking buttons. In the back there are about 5-6 wires that come off the rear of the panel and come together at a connector. On my car this connector is not connected to anything. The only other connector in the wiring harness that is not connected to anything does fit the connector mentioned above. The problem is that each connector has different color wires. My assumption is that they don’t go together but this is why I need someone with a color wiring diagram. I am hopeful that this is clear enough for someone to help but if you need more information let me know and I will try and provide it. Thank you! Tim Boyer |

Tim,
You do realize that the factory wiring diagrams for an 84 are devoid of wire color designations? It's just one of the funny little things that Porsche has done over the years to create havoc within the Porsche 928 community. You can either look at 83 or 85 wiring diagrams to get a clue as to what the wire colors to look for. Can you take a picture of the connector in question and post it? Pictures are worth a thousand words sometimes

Thanks! That’s why I couldn’t find a colored diagram. I will take a couple of pictures and post them.

Pictures should enable identification.
I just imagine the group of Porsche engineers sitting around talking: "Hey, can anybody think of a way we can jam future 928 owners?" "Sure. Let's provide a wiring diagram without any wire wire colors for the 84" "Why the 84 model year?" "Because the Euro/ROW cars are 310hp LH injection and the US version is 229hp L-Jet injection" "Will that matter as far as the wiring goes?" "What do you think?" "I think we should not include the wire colors on the diagrams" "Okay, then everybody agrees?" A resounding acclamation ensues! Can't you just see it happening that way?

![]() ![]() ![]() 1) wires coming out of central ac, lock, etc. unit. 2) wire connector not currently connected to anything. 3) possible connection of 1 and 2. Note different color wires which leads me to believe they don’t fit together but it is worth showing in case it does connect. Thanks for any input, Tim |
