1991 928 S4 Rear Wheels
I recently inherited what I believe to be an 1991 928 S4 with 62k miles on it. Having previously owned a 1995 928 GTS 5-speed this car is very different. Which is my first question...how can you tell from a GT and an S4? From the descriptions in this forum it rides and looks like a GT but I still am not sure as it has wheels very similar to my GTS.
Second question, more importantly, did factory Porsche install shims on the rear wheels in 1991? I am asking as I just replaced the tires and the local shop told me my shims were very dangerous and they would not reinstall them stating liability on their end. Now when I look at the car it appears the rear wheels are slightly tracking inside of the track of the front tires. I have never seen a Porsche have a narrower track on the rear than the front but I am not sure of this. Also, the shims which I have, look to be stock. There are no logos or insignia on them as most after market parts have. The front tires are 225/45/17 and the rears are 245/40/17's. They are Porsche Chrome rims similar to my GTS. ![]() ![]() Last edited by ben90265; 09-05-2021 at 07:30 AM.. |

Ben, Do you have extended lugs that will accommodate the spacers? I saw something the other day that said you should have at least 7 turns of the lug nut on the stud to be safe.
