928 headlights on a 911? Oh, yes... and help?
Fully realize that as a 911 owner... I should be in the other forum. :-)
But, I have an '86 911 Cab Turbo w/ a BB conversion front end that has the pop-up 928 headlights. The actual headlights are the Euro H4 lenses and guts. I've been searching for some direct replacements for the Euro H4s that are LED or HID/projector. So, I thought why not ask you 928 experts on how you solved this. Yes, surely some will say to simply change out the bulbs for the current halogen, but I don't want just more light scattered about but also the look that comes with current headlight technology. Any ideas? All welcome. To get you thinking, here is a pic of the front end of the car.. ================ EDITED: the photo didn't upload. I'll figure out how to do that. If you don't want light just scattered about, you are best to keep the Euro H4 with good quality halogen bulbs. At least that is my opinion at the moment. LED tech is continuously improving and at some point there may be a LED that gets the correct pattern when mounted in the 8" Euro reflectors, but I don't believe they are there yet, though others will probably disagree.
I am not aware of any 8" dedicated LED assemblies that will fill the 928 housing. you could however install the US assembly which consists of a different mount and a chrome trim ring that uses a 7" DOT approved sealed beam. there are good 7" LED assemblies, but I don't know if you will like the look as well as the full 8" reflector. I would do some searching on rennlist in the 928 forum, as there has been extensive discussion on LEDs in the 928 housings there. |
