I would like to ask all you 928 owners out there If you know why so many 928s are automatic transmission. It seems strange, the vast majority of 928s are automatic transmission. Why did porsche produce more autos than manuals? was there realy that much more demand for autos from 928 buyers or was it a decision made by porsche for some other reason?

My understanding is that first the car was a competitor to Mercedes SECs and BMW 6 Series. Most of them are autos (built by Mercedes nonetheless). The other reason was that the engine has too much torque so the clutch is not as durable.
