Fuel System redo
Hello everyone, it’s been awhile. I’ve been lurking since installing some Jack Stands under the car.
(No flames or silly Internet stories please.. I think we’ve heard them all by now) This is the state of things in my garage at the moment: I’m re-doing all the lines, fuel pump, injectors, fuel distributor, etc. and am thinking about about modernizing my system from mechanical to EFI. If there were an easy OBII swap, I’d be all over it, but the last time I looked into it nobody had one that could be done by the average person tinkering around on weekends. Has this changed at all, with the number of older cars being put back in service? Normally, I wouldn’t entertain this other idea, because it would be pouring a lot of money down the drain, but since I’m doing all this work anyway, I’m curious: do the early fuel pumps, injectors, intake systems, etc provide enough fuel, spark, and oxygen to happily run on alcohol? (‘E85’). It seems that high gas prices are here to stay. I know that in the past there were some of you that owned track cars, and a few of you raced on alcohol, and others of you have been following what’s happening in the petroleum industry. What say you, do our technologically advanced (for their time) vehicles already have the basic components to live happily with fuels other than pure gasoline? Mine always seemed perfectly happy running standard E10 pump gas, and I almost never put premium in it. Thanks. -M Last edited by Mal81; 10-08-2022 at 10:24 AM.. |
