928 s2

I am considering the purchase of a 1984 Porsche 928 s2. I am trying to research the car for specs on the web, but the info seems very limited.

Does anyone own one of these cars or have details regarding it. I understand that this particular model was only sold in Europe.

All replies are appreciated.

The euro '84 928 is a pretty impressive beast. It had 310hp, nearly 80 more than what was available for US models (234). Unless it was federalized when brought into the US, it'll have better headlights (adjustable from inside the car), no catalytic converters, and some cosmetic changes including an extra tailight next to the rear bumper pads.

Maintenance may be tricker with the euro model since it employs a different fuel injection system. Parts will be rarer in the US.

Thanks for your replies.
The car is ex-Japan, but I believe it to be a Euro spec model. However it says to run it on unleaded, which I do not believe to be a European requirement in 1984. Do you know if Japan had catalytic converters in 1984 and used unleaded fuel? If it had emissions I fear that it will not develop 310 horsepower and not be a full euro spec car from a performance perspective, what do you think?

Anyone see a top speed road test of an s2?

Thanks for any replies.

if it came into the us in the 80's or later for that fact . Converters were part of the fed conversion. An easier way is to check the vin, should start off wpo"zzz". from my reading, most of the power is from the lengthend intake runners and pistons. there is definatly a power difference. I had a US 82 928s stick, switched to a Euro 928s auto, added "martin Schneider" headers, 2 chamber muffler and 3 inch pipe. boost the fuel flow and mixture, k&n, 17in anteras...now will do 325hp on the dyno !!! and sounds like a dream.. Have fun.

It has the wpo zzz vin in the engibe bay. But the engine is 28.20, whereas from my reading the 28.22 is the 310 horsepower euro version (with auto transmission). So what do I have? A normal 928s or a euro 928s2?

What do you all think?

euro spec 928s...the "zzz" in the vin is the euro spec..28.20 is correct as well, it is a 310 hp version. sould also have side turn signals behind the front wheels, a knob on the inside where the e-brake handle is for the adjustable headlilights, probably disabled..supose disable for fed conversion. the rear fog light. depending on the importer it may not have rear bumper pads also, mine does not, usally they were installed. one other way i have seen is in the cluster, the words are written on the faces in english, but when they light up they are in german. good luck.

Thanks David. I don't mean to reiterate the same things again, but the 28.22 is the hot engine isn't it, not the 28.20. Plus the car has a catalytic coverter, but the high compression engine would not use unleaded fuel would it?

I DID A LITTLE MORE RESEARCH FOR YOU IN THE FACTORY SPEC BOOK. AND THIS INFO MAY HELP, YES THE 28.22 IS THE LOWER HP ENGINE VERSION. HERE IS THE INFO ON THE 944 MODELS.

1983/1984

1. M28.21 (310 HP) LH-JETRONIC EUROPE , R.O.W
2. M28.22 (310 HP) LH-JETRONIC EUROPE , R.O.W ( AUTO )
3. M28.19 (242 HP) L-JETRONIC USA & JAPAN
4. M28.20 (242 HP) L-JETRONIC USA & JAPAN ( AUTO )
** R.O.W = REST OF WORLD.

"ZZZ" IN VIN ( 3-6 DIGIT) = EUROPE, JAPAN, R.O.W
"JOA" IN VIN ( 3-6 DIGIT ) = USA & CANADA SPECIFIC

..AN ADDITIONAL NOTE , THE NUMBER 12, PRECEDING THE TRANS CODE NOTES A LIMITED SLIP DIFF.

..I HOPE THIS HELPS, SORRY IF PRIOR INFO SEAMED CONFLICTING. DAVID
