928 Wooden Brakes
Ive got a 1979 928 and despite changing all the discs/pads pipes and bleeding the system over and over, the brakes are spongy and variable in stopping power.
Could it be the servo or master cylinder? The cylinder is only 2 years old. If a turn the engine off and press the pedal hard a few times, the next press with the engine on feels quite good, but then it wears off. Help! (I crashed it the other day on the motorway because the guy in front of me had ABS!) |

Sounds like you may be loosing vacuum. Have you checked the vacuum connector between the servo and the inlet manifold? If it is a leak the brakes would usually work better with the engine idling. Could also be the servo itself which you could check for leaks somehow or the push in connector. It is also very difficult to bleed these brakes and I know on my 928S which I owned for 6 years the brakes always required a good push - although they were effective.

Cars too *&%^ heavy!!!! At least you have one of the early lighter ones with fewer gegaws. All those fancy upgrades that porsche put on the later models just barely kept up with the fat? Okay, now that everybody is mad at me, why do these things eat the disks? (Most of my 928s aren't automatic and I really don't care for the ABS on the later car.)

That's how its supposed to feel. The early ones feel spongy and variable in assistance. I have had 10 928s of all years and driven more than a hundred. Just get used to them or buy a 928 that was made after 79. The later cars feel totally different.
