S4 sucks oil . Black not Blue Smoke

150,000 miles, runs like a train, 182-187 psi compression on all 8, but really sucks oil (70 miles per quart) when cruising at anything over 3500-4500 rpm. usually for about 70 miles. Easy driving gets quite a bit better, but its still bad (400 mi. per quart.) One knowlegeable P mechanic swears its the valve seals as they have a tendency to "float" on this model. Can anybody shed light on this situation?

Dan,
Try calling my friend Don at EBS Racing in Reno-- 1-800-462-3774. He is really knowledgable and really honest. If he doesn't know, he can probably find or refer you to someone who does. Tell him Chris from Michigan said to call.

PS: did Michigan State win last saturday?

Problem solved:

Engine is super healthy. Just did the 180 mile round trip in the heat of the day at 90 to 120 mph. Negligable oil consumption. DUMB DUMB DUMB! Replaced air filter.

My initial thought on the matter was something like a pcv valve. (You know, a pressure control.) Top wrenches said, "No way! Rings or valve guide seals."

Love this car!
