low oil pressure

Hi all,
well for the past week or so with my car at or near idle <1200 rpm, the oil pressure drops right off to 1 or 1.5, and I get the low oil pressure annunciater comming on. I've checked, and topped up the oil so I assume it's not oil quantity. Is this indicative of an oil pump pretty much done, or is there something else I can be looking at. I do have a number of gremlins with the car, so I assume some could be interrelated. See next post. Thanks,

dartman

What weight oil are you using?

Have you checked the connections on the oil pressure sender? The sender might be going bad.

Don't over fill! This will cause you to burn oil.

I'm using 20-50 at the moment. I haven't checked any of the connections as yet. I hate to ask, however, where is the oil pressure sender located? And yes, re another thread I started, I'm pretty sure I over serviced the oil, and am blowing it out under hard acceleration. It was just really disconcerting to see the pressure plumit, and the quantity was a little low. I just over did it. Now to figure out the reason behind the pressure indication. Is there a link showing the location of the sender. I know I ought to pick up a workshop manual, however the indicationa are the price has skyrocked this year,

well it appears there were two parallal issues. One, the thermostat is kaput, thus the high operating temp., and from what I have gathered possibly leading to a low oil pressure indication. Additionally after replacing thermosat, I discovered the left tank on the rad is cracked. So now I need to ask another question. The general advice thus far has been to replace the entire rad assembly. However I see that 928intl does sell the tank, leading one to surmise that in theory it is possible to replace only the tank. Thoughts?

The side tank can be replaced as long as you are careful bending the tabs. They can't take much befor they break. A good radiator shop should be able to put the side tank on for you.
Good luck

Thanks, I'll let you know. Anything to avoid whole assembly,

A.
