928 diet
How much weight can I take off a 90 928 GT? Like, I don't need a heater and those little electric motors are darn near usless, (except for the starter and maybe the windshield wipers.) Perhaps I am somewhat reminisent of a 52 or Ferrari Mexican road race car that I once owned or a 60 Ferrari short wheelbase aluminum competition car I used to drive. Then an aluminum 250 GT Berlinetta became my flame, but I bought an early Miura which was a hoot but never was properly set up. After that a competition Daytona lit my fire, but by then big fast Italian car prices escalated through the roof when they made Enzo God. So the 928 has the aluminum, Miura headlights, DOHC monster V-8, transaxle, but it is really FAT. How close to the weights of these early primatives could I get with surgery and a few replacement panels like an aluminum panel for the hatch and rear windows and plexiglass? Anybody try to do Porsches rendition of the 50's or 60's Ferrari comp coupes?

I used to race my 87 S4, the biggest weight reduction I found was in the really, I mean Really heavy 6 way power seats, they weighed something like 95 pounds each, I replced them with light weight sparco's. the wheels from the factory were also heavier than they should be so they were replaced. spare tire and tools removed, rear seat gone ( carpet goes all the way under it so it didn't look bad), Gel cell battery saved about 20 pounds, and that big air conditioner thing that never works right is pretty heavy also. I never took my AC totally out, just the rear part inside and I left the stereo system in the car and I wieghed in at just under 3100 lbs with fuel ( no driver) well above our local class limit of 2500 lbs. I still cant believe how heavy those seats were!

O yeah I forgot one thing... After all this weight reduction was done, the car had to have a four wheel alignment done so it could be properly corner weighted. They put these little scale things under each tire with a 200 lb weight where the drive sits and then align the car so the wiegth is even on all four corners. It made a huge difference in the way the car felt
